National Exhibition of Wildlife Art

The Experience: The Blue and Yellow Macaw is definitely an interesting species to choose from anyone's perspective. The main reason for studying this particular parrot was due to another project I had at the time studying the hyacinth macaw. I found out a lot about the macaw family in the space of a month, but the one macaw that captivated me, was of course, this beautiful blue and yellow macaw. While around this macaw for several weeks, I learned a great deal about the power of their beaks, along with how intelligent they actually are. One thing I would love to comment on his their loyalty and pet like features. Seeing this particular macaw with its owner, witnessing the bond between the two really had me thinking that we are more apart of nature than what most would have us to believe.
The Painting: The intelligence of a bird captivates and fascinates me. This image consisted mainly of many feathers, which I found very challenging! The brilliant contrast between the colours, orange, yellow, blue and green made for a difficult image but one that I had a great deal of fun with! After all, it isn't everyday I get to paint with a very colourful pallet such as these.
