'Juvenile Defender'
Red-Tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis)

Exhibited: D&AD Show [London] :: Date: 23th June - 25th June 2008

The Experience: Being around such a fantastic bird of prey is very captivating for the imagination, the claws, with the ability to dig deep into anything, the beak, with the strength to crack into bone. This marvellous creature is definitely worth time studying and getting to know if you ever have the pleasure to get up close and personal with one.

My experience with this red-tailed hawk, as short as it was, gave me a new life experience. I had the pleasure of holding her on my hand while walking down a country road which is always a nice little boost on ones own ego!

About The Painting: The painting itself was the first time I touched on Alkyd Oils. I remember doing a complete detailed layer in black and white and having very mixed feelings whether to continue onto colour or not due to the finished look I already gave the image. After about a day, I finally gave in and washed the whole image with colour. A few layers later, the finished image that is seen today is the result of a lot of hard work, time and dedication.

Final Message: Without having the pleasure of meeting this young red-tailed hawk, I would never have been so passionate about the finished image. That level of understanding and the experience I had with her truly was all the motivation I needed to create this image.

Painting is now NOT FOR SALE
