The Experience: When capturing this fine species, it had been a beautiful day out at Gait Barrows in Cumbria. Whenever spring and summer hit with great weather, I travel all kind of areas with Gait Barrows being one of them. On this day, it took some time to capture great moments when the butterflies would rest upon the nearby flowers that I sat myself down next to however, well worth it for close encounters and studies. Patience is definitely a virtue when concerning anything as timid as butterflies.
The Painting: The incredible length of a butterflies tongue adds more balance to an image. Unlike most of my other paintings, this one went a little more into depth with the depth of field. I had purposefully made the butterflies front highly focused with the plant slightly out of focus to create more depth of field which in the end, I feel, paid of in the overall aesthetic look of the image.
